Last Minute Trips are the Best!

by Brian on Dec.20, 2009, under Photography, Travel

Mirror Lake in Lake Placid. After finding out that Denise and I both had a Friday off, we decided to take a last minute to trip up to Lake Placid for the weekend. We were able to find a nice apartment downtown and ended up having a great weekend. We took our dog, Yuki, along which complicated things a bit. He has a bit of separation anxiety when being in a foreign place. We were able to get out for a great opening daying of skate-skiing at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. There was a nice base of snow there and temps were perfect. Sunday was around 6 degrees in the morning, but I did get out for my morning run and Denise took Yuki for a nice walk around the lake. The drive home was a little tense. Snow was coming down pretty good and cars were flipped over on there roof. The weather had improved as we made our way home, but the usual 5 hour trip took about 7 this time. Still had a great weekend and am looking forward to others.

Checking For Sensor Dust on your DSLR

by Brian on Nov.06, 2009, under Photography

I always seem to forget these steps so I am summarizing them here…

  1. Set focus on lens to infinity.
  2. Set aperature to smallest opening(largest # e.g. f/22)
  3. Set exposure compensation to +1 stop
  4. Take picture of a uniformly lit wall or the sky. Exposure may take a bit, but it does not really matter.
  5. Check images on pc.

Baltimore’s Inner Harbor Excursion

by Brian on Oct.30, 2007, under Photography, Travel

This past weekend, Denise and I headed down to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD. We stayed out at the Hampton Inn by the BWI Airport. The room was really nice and reasonably priced too. They provided a shuttle service which dropped us off at the BWI Business District Terminal of the Light Rail which took us into the city.

Saturday morning was raining pretty hard, but fortunately we had pre-purchased tickets to the Baltimore Aquarium for the morning so we were able to spend a few hours indoors. The Aquarium was great and we particularly enjoyed the frogs. When we exited the aquarium, we were met by a beautiful sunny day and nice temps too. After that lunch at Chipotle and wandering around Fell’s Point. Later in the day we enjoyed harbor-side Tapas at La Tasca.

In the evening we walked up Charles St. to the Mt. Vernon area for Dinner at a new Indian Restaurant called Indigma(802 North Charles St.). Food was very good and they had some very unique twists to the standard Indian dishes.
